Education in Russia is available for everyone as it is organised by the state. It normally begins with pre-school or kindergarten, although it is not absolutely necessary. General education includes three main stages: primary, general and secondary education. General education is compulsory. Typically, each school has its own curriculum based on state requirements. Students can leave school after 9 years of studying with a Certificate of Basic General Education or stay for two more years to get a Certificate of Secondary General Education and be able to enter a university after passing the Sate exams.
